A man from Peterborough has been sentenced to two years and two months in prison after refusing to accept the end of a relationship and engaging in stalking behavior.

Jamie Keegan, 38, of Vars Road, Hampton Hargate, was convicted at Cambridge Crown Court after admitting to stalking involving serious alarm or distress.

Keegan refused to accept the end of a month-long relationship in December 2024 and began to bombard the victim with messages and threats, including self-harm.

Despite the victim’s attempts to support him and her clear wish to remain friends only, Keegan persisted in pursuing her romantically.

His behavior escalated in December 2025 when he sent threatening messages and images to the victim, found her residence, and began contacting her family and workplace.

Keegan admitted to sending a high volume of messages, which he claimed aimed to seek “accountability” from the victim.

Detective Constable Ryan Burke emphasized the severity of Keegan’s actions, which caused significant distress to the victim and impacted her daily life.

Burke reiterated the importance of respecting someone’s wish to cease contact, noting that repeated unwanted contact can constitute stalking.
