As petrol prices continue to rise, at least two outlets have topped the milestone charge

More than 300 fuel stations around the country are now charging over £2 a litre for diesel as prices continue to spike upwards – including several in Devon.
An extra 33 forecourts put up their prices overnight, taking the total to 326 garages around the UK which have breached the £2-a-litre threshold for standard diesel in the last week.
And at five of those garages, the price of standard unleaded, which is usually cheaper than diesel, now stands at 199.9p-a-litre.
At £2 a litre, it will cost motorists £110 to fill up a standard family car, which is at least £30 more than the average price of filling up the same car at the start of 2026.
Petrol and diesel prices shot up after the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, and there has been another spike in prices since the start of September as the continuing conflict has put further pressure on oil prices.
A third of the petrol stations charging £2 a litre are motorway service stations, but the high prices are also being charged in many suburban and rural forecourts.
In Devon they include a Murco at Rockbeare, a BP at Tiverton, Highfield Garage at Honiton and others – as you can see in the map below.
Just over the border it has also topped the £2 mark at an Esso garage at the A38 Carkeel Roundabout near Saltash.

The prices are based on data supplied by retailers and updated daily as part of the government’s Fuel Finder service, set up to help motorists get a better deal from fuel companies.
The average price of diesel across all UK forecourts is now 195.3p a litre, with standard unleaded standing at 172p a litre. Both are at their highest levels since the spike in prices at the end of 2022 caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The cheapest place in Devon to fill up your car with petrol is at a Jet garage in Newton Abbot.According to the latest data supplied by retailers, a driver in an average family car could save up to £20 by filling up at this forecourt, compared to the most expensive petrol station.The Jet garage at Aller Vale Garage, Newton Abbot is charging motorists 159.9p per litre, which means it would cost £88 to fill up an average 55 litre tank. This is based on a feed of live petrol prices which is published by the government.

The most expensive filling station in Devon is a Bp station at Exeter Service Area, Exeter. The cost of standard petrol at this station is 196.9p, meaning it would cost a total of £108 to fill up an average family car at this forecourt.For the owners of diesel cars, the cheapest place to fill up is the Sainsbury’s garage at Newton Abbot. The cost of a litre of standard diesel at this forecourt is 183.9p, according to prices supplied by retailers.
