More than 300 fuel stations around the country are now charging over \u00a32 a litre for diesel as prices continue to spike upwards – including several in Devon.<\/p>\n
An extra 33 forecourts put up their prices overnight, taking the total to 326 garages around the UK which have breached the \u00a32-a-litre threshold for standard diesel in the last week.<\/p>\n
And at five of those garages, the price of standard unleaded, which is usually cheaper than diesel, now stands at 199.9p-a-litre.<\/p>\n
At \u00a32 a litre, it will cost motorists \u00a3110 to fill up a standard family car, which is at least \u00a330 more than the average price of filling up the same car at the start of 2026.<\/p>\n
Petrol and diesel prices shot up after the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, and there has been another spike in prices since the start of September as the continuing conflict has put further pressure on oil prices.<\/p>\n
A third of the petrol stations charging \u00a32 a litre are motorway service stations, but the high prices are also being charged in many suburban and rural forecourts.<\/p>\n
In Devon they include a Murco at Rockbeare, a BP at Tiverton<\/a>, Highfield Garage at Honiton<\/a> and others – as you can see in the map below.<\/p>\n Just over the border it has also topped the \u00a32 mark at an Esso garage at the A38<\/a> Carkeel Roundabout near Saltash<\/a>.<\/p>\n You can see all the garages charging \u00a32 a litre for diesel on this interactive map<\/p>\n The prices are based on data supplied by retailers and updated daily as part of the government\u2019s Fuel Finder service, set up to help motorists get a better deal from fuel companies.<\/p>\n The average price of diesel across all UK forecourts is now 195.3p a litre, with standard unleaded standing at 172p a litre. Both are at their highest levels since the spike in prices at the end of 2022 caused by Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n The cheapest place in Devon to fill up your car with petrol is at a Jet garage in Newton Abbot<\/a>.According to the latest data supplied by retailers, a driver in an average family car could save up to \u00a320 by filling up at this forecourt, compared to the most expensive petrol station.The Jet garage at Aller Vale Garage, Newton Abbot is charging motorists 159.9p per litre, which means it would cost \u00a388 to fill up an average 55 litre tank.
