A major Essex train route has been left ‘unable to run’. Overrunning engineering works in Essex has resulted in train disruption. The works are overrunning at Newport, near Saffron Walden, and disruption is expected until at least midday today (Thursday, October 1).
A National Rail spokesperson said: “Overrunning engineering works at Newport (Essex) means all lines are blocked. As a result, trains between Bishops Stortford/Stansted Airport and Cambridge may be cancelled or revised.”
The train routes affected are Cross Country between Stansted Airport and Cambridge/Birmingham New Street. Greater Anglia trains between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport/Cambridge/Cambridge North and Ely are also affected.
Greater Anglia customers are advised that trains are “unable to run” between Newport and Cambridge, with trains facing cancellation or terminating at different stations. Customers are able to catch a half hourly train between Audley End and Cambridge.
Greater Anglia is also trying to source vehicles for a replacement rail bus service. Passengers are advised to check their journeys before travelling.
