A man who died after a crash involving a lorry and a pedestrian has been named locally for the first time. Peter Ogwoka, 46, died last month after the serious collision on Progress Road near Southend.

Emergency services had been called to the major road shortly after noon on September 16 after reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a HGV. Police later confirmed that a man in his 40s had died from fatal injuries.

A fundraising page has since been set-up in memory by Mr Ogwoka’s wife, who says they are seeking help with funeral and burial expenses. More than £5,000 has already been raised through donations.

Progress road was closed in both directions and the A127 blocked between Rayleigh Weir and Progress Road for several hours while investigators attended the scene. It reopened at around 7pm.

An inquest opening into Mr Ogwoka’s death is listed for Essex Coroner’s Court on Thursday (October 2).
