CAMDEN, S.C. (WIS) – A new gas station in Camden let drivers fill up for $2.50 a gallon on Wednesday, drawing long lines of drivers from near and far.
The deal was offered during the grand opening of the Corner Pantry in Camden. Drivers said it typically costs them around $60 to $100 to fill up at the pump.
“It’s unreal,” Said Stanley Wood, who took part in the deal.
The line of cars backed up traffic on the main road. Some drivers brought gas jugs to stock up on the discounted fuel.
“If I get my truck full and two containers full, it’ll last me until Monday,” one driver said.
“You can look at the lines and tell a lot of people need this relief,” Wood said.
The deal lasted only one day, but driver Veronica Washington said the savings can go a long way.
“This is a blessing to help out because it is really high now. A lot of people out there are struggling,” Washington said.
According to AAA, as of Sept. 23, the average price of gas in South Carolina is $4.03 a gallon. Driver Patrick Turner said the cost has affected him for weeks.
“I’m on disability, and it really is impacting me pretty badly. It’s crazy what’s going on with the fuel prices,” Turner said.
“This little relief is enough to help out,” Wood said.
