EMMET COUNTY — A Levering woman has been charged with two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated following back-to-back arrests this week in Emmet County.

Marti Berlin, 54, was taken into custody on May 6 and again on May 7 after troopers responded to separate incidents.

Berlin was arraigned today in the 90th District Court in Emmet County on both charges.

The second arrest on May 7 came after Berlin allegedly fled the scene of a traffic crash.

Both incidents involved her being believed to be intoxicated while operating her vehicle for a second consecutive day.

On May 6, troopers from the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post responded to a report of an erratic driver near US 31 Highway and Litzner Road in Carp Lake Township.

Troopers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle violation. The preliminary investigation indicated Berlin was believed to be intoxicated. She was arrested and lodged at the Emmet County Jail without incident.

The following day at 5 p.m. on May 7, troopers responded to US 31 near Ball Road in McKinley Township for a traffic crash where the at-fault driver fled. Troopers found the suspect vehicle at the Pellston General Store. A roadside investigation was conducted and Berlin was identified as the driver.

She was believed to be intoxicated for the second day in a row and was arrested and lodged at the Emmet County Jail for Operating While Intoxicated.

“Individuals who choose to get behind the wheel after drinking pose a significant risk to public safety,” said Lt. Ashley Miller. “These incidents emphasize the importance of responsible decision-making and the ongoing need for enforcement. We are grateful no one was injured during these encounters, and our troopers remain committed to proactive patrols and continued enforcement efforts to combat impaired driving.”

Berlin’s next court appearance is scheduled for 2 p.m. June 8.
