The German government on Thursday strongly condemned recent
attacks targeting Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, describing the strike on the
residence of regional President Nechirvan Barzani in Duhok province as a
“serious escalation.”

In a statement,the Kurdish Presidency said Barzani received a
phone call from German Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Geza Andreas von
Geyr who conveyed Berlin’s rejection of the attacks on the Region, stressing
that “stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region remains a priority for the
international community, particularly Germany.” he also affirmed Germany’s full
solidarity with the regional authorities in confronting security threats.

For his part, Barzani expressed appreciation for Germany’s
support, reaffirming the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to de-escalation.

“The Kurdistan Region has always sought to be a source of
stability in the region,” he stressed, adding that the Region we will continue
working with partners to ensure security in Iraq and protect it from the
repercussions of regional conflicts.

Barzani also thanked Germany for its continued assistance to
Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, emphasizing Erbil’s desire to strengthen
cooperation and deepen bilateral relations across various fields.

The two sides exchanged views on political developments in
Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and discussed the latest security situation and
the implications of ongoing military operations in the region, the statement noted.
