The Thyssenkrupp plant in the Vigo County Industrial Park is closing.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) — The Thyssenkrupp plant in the Vigo County Industrial Park is closing.

The company announced the plant will close by March 31, 2027.

This means 230 people will lose their jobs.

The Terre Haute site will be phased down so it can continue to meet customer demands.

The company plans to focus its North American production at its plant in Hamilton, Ohio, just outside of Cincinnati.

The Terre Haute plant makes steering components.

The news release did not say if the 230 people who are losing their jobs will be offered employment elsewhere.

Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun released the following statement:

“The news regarding Thyssenkrup is disappointing to say the least. The focus now is ensuring that current employees have opportunities here in our community. The city of Terre Haute has been in direct contact with Work One on the matter. Several of our community’s other large employers have also connected with us, with the hopes to ultimately hire individuals affected by this decision.

There is opportunity in our community. This decision by an international company based on factors outside of our local control will not define who we are as a city. We are fortunate to have multiple companies currently expanding their operations in Terre Haute and Vigo County.”
