A Connecticut man has been indicted and accused of robbing a bank in Berlin on New Year’s Eve while on supervised release for a prior narcotics conviction.
A federal grand jury in New Haven returned an indictment on Wednesday charging 55-year-old Thomas Marra of North Haven with bank robbery, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.
The indictment accuses Marra of robbing the Webster Bank on Webster Square Road on Dec. 31, 2025, officials said. The charge he faces exposes him to as many as 20 years in prison, according to authorities.
Marra has been in custody since he was arrested on Jan. 7 on state charges related to the robbery, officials said. He faces charges of second-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny.
According to the Berlin Police Department, officers responded to the bank shortly after 10 a.m. and learned that a man allegedly handed the teller a note demanding money and threatened to use a gun. Police said the robber was seen leaving the area in a gray 2020 Cadillac CT6.
Berlin police worked with local and federal law enforcement to investigate the holdup and carried out search warrants later in the day, searching a residence on Route 5 in North Haven and a vehicle suspected to be involved. Two days later, Berlin police announced that they had a warrant charging Marra and that he was believed to have fled the state to the New York City area.
Authorities noted that Marra could face enhanced penalties if it’s found that he violated the terms of his supervised release. In May 2023 in New Haven federal court, he was sentenced to 60 months in prison for narcotics trafficking, federal officials said. He was released from prison in June 2025 and was still on supervised release at the time of the robbery.
