Willy Chavarria is still relatively new to the world of Adidas collabs. Grace Wales Bonner has been with the Three Stripes for around six years now. Bad Bunny linked up with the brand back in 2021. And Pharrell Williams has basically been part of the furniture since 2014. But, despite only joining the roster last year, trainers like the upcoming Willy Chavarria x adidas Copa Mundial Megaride are already cementing him as a big player.

Now, let’s get one thing straight: the Cali-born multi-hyphenate is no stranger to the Megaride AG. He’s already dropped a few versions of the techy runner, and every single pair has vanished almost instantly no matter how many times Adidas restocks them. Not surprising, really. First introduced in 2025 as part of the brand’s big Y2K running push, the Megaride AG is one seriously strange-looking sneaker. It’s got a big-ass ventilated sole, aggressive curves, mesh panelling, and the sorta futuristic shape that looks like it belongs in an old concept car sketchbook.
But rather than simply dropping another colour combo that’ll disappear from shelves in five seconds, Chavarria’s decided to switch things up. With football fever coming in hot ahead of the World Cup, he’s taken the upper from the legendary Copa Mundial and stitched it directly onto the Megaride sole. Originally released in ’79, the Copa Mundial is one of the most iconic football boots ever made, known for its all-leather build and black-and-white vibe. Chavarria also added an oversized tongue for extra football points.

Up until now, the Mexican-American designer’s Adidas output has actually been relatively low-key. The Jabbar Low and Forum Hi were both wearable in a pretty straightforward way. But lately he’s been leaning further into the weird stuff. Just look at the wild Huarache sandal or the Harden Vol. 10 that he worked on with pro basketball player James Harden. The Copa Mundial Megaride sits somewhere in the middle – still football-coded, still wearable, but definitely a lot more chaotic than what came before.
The Willy Chavarria x Adidas Copa Mundial Megaride ‘Core Black’ is set to drop at Willy Chavarria, Adidas, the Confirmed app, and select stockists globally on June 10.
