Aldi is set to open its long-awaited new Watford store later this month.

A sign has appeared outside the former Iceland and Laser Planet units in Albert Road South confirming that the store will be open to the public from Wednesday, June 24.

Rumours have been swirling for weeks with today (June 4) having previously been floated by an apparent insider.

Speaking earlier in the year, an Aldi spokesperson said: “Once open, the store will create up to 40 jobs and help local people shop and save closer to home.”

Work had previously been seen at the rear of the unit to upgrade the car park and plans also included knocking through the walls of the two units to combine them into one larger space.

The store had initially been scheduled to open last summer and planning permission was granted back in December 2024, making this month’s opening long in the making.

Aldi is showing no signs of slowing down its Hertfordshire expansion as a recent “wish list” revealed that it is eyeing new openings in Rickmansworth, St Albans, Stevenage, Hitchin and Ware.

The retailer already has a Watford store in Century Way.
