Crew members and ground staff were on board when the Boeing 787-9’s nose landing gear gave way at a Frankfurt airport gate, prompting an emergency response and an investigation by authorities
Several staff members were injured when the nose gear of a Boeing 787 jetliner unexpectedly collapsed at a gate at Frankfurt airport on Thursday, according to a Reuters report, citing operator Lufthansa.
“Passengers had not yet boarded,” a company spokesperson said in an emailed statement, adding that crew members and ground staff were on board the aircraft at the time of the incident, which was first reported by Bloomberg News.

“Several staff members were injured and are currently receiving medical treatment,” the company added.
According to the report, the scene observed several emergency response vehicles surrounding the aircraft, which was resting partially on its belly following the collapse of its nose landing gear.
Lufthansa said the incident took place at 12:45 pm local time (1045 GMT). The aircraft had been scheduled to operate Flight LH450 from Frankfurt to Los Angeles.
“We are currently investigating the exact circumstances with the relevant authorities,” the airline said.
The Boeing 787 is a relatively recent addition to Lufthansa’s fleet, with the carrier operating the 787-9 variant.
The aircraft forms part of the airline group’s broader fleet modernisation strategy, which aims to replace older, less fuel-efficient jets and streamline operations through a more standardised fleet.
