ALDI has been named the UK’s cheapest supermarket once again.
The budget retailer, which has stores across the Bradford district, secured the top spot in consumer group Which?’s monthly price comparison for May, with a basket of 95 commonly purchased items costing just £168.30.
This makes Aldi up to £30 cheaper than competitors including Sainsbury’s and Tesco, even after loyalty discounts are applied.
Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, said: “Being named the UK’s cheapest supermarket once again by Which? is fantastic recognition of our unwavering commitment to offering customers the very best value.
“At Aldi, we know how important it is for shoppers to make their money go further, especially as we head into the summer months.
“Our low prices mean shoppers can enjoy great quality food without overspending.”
Morrisons came in at £197.50, Tesco at £196.88, and Waitrose significantly higher at £235.49 for the same basket of goods.
Aldi said the savings could cover the cost of a summer picnic for four, with items such as pork sausage mini rolls, chicken Caesar dip, and strawberries included in a £24.73 spread.
Over a year, switching from Sainsbury’s to Aldi could save shoppers £1,585.48, enough to fund 64 Aldi picnics.
