German soccer fan goes viral for documenting World Cup trip in Georgia

  • June 10, 2026

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to visit Atlanta during the World Cup — but it’s possible that nobody is enjoying their stay more than Freddy.

The German soccer fan has been thrilling the internet with his escapades in northern Georgia. His recent X posts document his experiences in Atlanta and Georgia at large, ranging from his first look at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium to his opinions on local fast food.

Touching down in Atlanta on Friday, Freddy first checked out the stadium, which is currently being called the Atlanta Stadium due to FIFA branding rules.

His response? “What a f****** stadium.”

Freddy then took a drive through the area, saying, “Atlanta is so green it’s crazy. It feels like you’re in a forest the whole time.”

Commenters were quick to point out what Freddy didn’t know: That Atlanta’s nickname is “the city in the forest.”

Next came a tour of Stranger Things filming locations and a visit to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park before venturing out to the top of Stone Mountain. Freddy also scoped out Helen, which made him feel “right at home,” and tubed down the Chattahoochee River.

But perhaps what the internet has enjoyed most is Freddy’s reaction to American food. He dubbed Taco Bell “the holy land” and even ate at Waffle House at 1 a.m.

Just had our first Waffle House experience at 1am. Great food, great prices, and friendly staff. 10/10, we will be coming back.😋 pic.twitter.com/QHgftpqfoX

“Great food, great prices, and friendly staff. 10/10, we will be coming back,” he said of his experience.

In the comments, Waffle House’s X account responded: “Thanks for visiting, Freddy!”

And when Freddy posted about Wendy’s, the company told him to turn around and get a Frosty.

“My bad next time,” he responded.

He loved Walmart, and may have joked about the American breakfast, but then questioned why every other comment was telling him to go to a strip club.

“Is this a normal activity to do in America? 😭😭”

On his way out of Atlanta, en route to Tennessee, he drove through Gainesville and commented on the “insane” houses and that “this place looks beautiful.”

Whether you’re from Georgia or looking on from afar, one comment sums up everyone’s response to Freddy’s experience: “This honestly might be my favorite thing on Twitter rn.”
