Officers responded to a report of a stolen Mercedes-Benz from a parking lot along Washington Road, where several other vehicles were also found burglarized. Investigators said there were no signs of forced entry, suggesting the cars may have been left unlocked. Surveillance video showed a white Volkswagen SUV driving through the lot before the crimes were committed. A person was later seen entering cars and taking items, and the stolen Mercedes was seen leaving the area moments later. Using license plate readers, police tracked the vehicles into Broward County and linked them to Burroughs. Officers later located the stolen Mercedes and other vehicles tied to the case. Police said Burroughs ran when they approached a residence connected to the investigation but was quickly taken into custody. Detectives said he admitted to driving the Volkswagen and knew the Mercedes had been stolen. Burroughs is charged with burglary, grand theft auto and criminal mischief causing more than $1,000 in damage. Investigators believe the suspects traveled from Broward County to Palm Beach County to carry out the crimes.
