An athletic complex in Somerset County now officially has a new name, after the closure of its previous sponsor.

The complex at the Berlin Brothersvalley School District will now be called the Center Rock Inc. Sports Complex after being named the Snyder of Berlin Athletic Complex since 2004.

This comes after the Snyder of Berlin manufacturing plant closed last February.

School officials said Center Rock has formed a great relationship with Berlin.

David Pietrzykowski, President and CEO, Center Rock Incorporated, said, “The Berlin area, Somerset County, Cambria County, that’s where we get our employees from and they’re our most valuable asset. So, kind of a recognition of the many employees that graduated from Berlin High School. We wanted to get our name. They come here, they watch the sports team, they participate in community events.”

Doug Paul, Athletic Director, Berlin Brothersvalley School District, said, “Just the work ethic that I see the workers have out there and talking to Dave, just the community spirit they have out there, it’s like family oriented, family driven, and it’s a lot of the things that we try to get through to our kids here in our school and in our athletic programs.”

Paul also said the new name will last at Berlin for at least the next 10-year period.

There will also be a pre-game recognition of the new complex name before Berlin’s first home game of the season on August 28 against Juniata Valley.
