The Curb model from Dutch bicycle manufacturer Gazelle is one of the first e-bikes with Bosch’s rear hub drive called Hub Line. The Curb is a city bike that, thanks to the new motor, is not immediately recognizable as an e-bike. It costs around 2400 euros and is offered both as a singlespeed with belt drive and with chain drive and gears.
City Cruiser
Gazelle explains that for a “tidy look and optimal protection in daily city traffic,” cables and battery are seamlessly integrated into the frame. The same applies to the Supernova lighting system, as the front headlight is located in the handlebars and the rear light in the mudguard.
The removable 360 Wh battery is housed in the down tube and can be charged via a charging port on the bike. For more range, the Bosch PowerMore 250 range extender with 250 Wh can be connected on request. It is about the size of a water bottle and is also compatible with the Performance Line CX, among others.
A smartphone can be attached to the handlebars via an integrated interface for SP Connect and Quad Lock and used for navigation, for example. The Gazelle app’s dashboard, which shows speed and remaining range of the e-support, can also be displayed on the smartphone, according to the company.
To bring the bike with its 45 Nm torque, a continuous rated power of 250 watts, and a peak power of 400 watts that can be called up briefly to a halt, the Curb features hydraulic disc brakes. In addition, it comes with a standard frame lock and a mounting point for a second lock. Those who want to transport more can purchase front and rear luggage racks to match the frame.
Two drive variants
Gazelle offers the Curb in two drive variants: the C1 model features a low-maintenance Gates belt drive and comes as a single-speed version. The T9 model has a classic nine-speed chain drive and is suitable, according to the manufacturer, for users who cover longer distances “to comfortably explore the surroundings of the city.” Both variants are available in several colors and the two frame types: low-step and high-step. Gazelle has not yet revealed when the Curb will go on sale.
In addition to Gazelle, Canyon has also introduced its model with Bosch’s Hub Line. The Roadlite:On CF model is designed to be a bit sportier, has a belt drive, and costs from around 3000 euros. Furthermore, manufacturers Moustache and Nicolai have confirmed bikes with the new drive.
