The Weston girls 4×800-meter relay struck gold at the adidas Outdoor Nationals track and field championships last weekend at the Marcus T. Johnson Track Complex in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The team of Maisie Rosengarten, Hannah Hutchinson, Hadley Grace and Abigail Winslow won the championship race in 9:33.16 to earn All-America honors.
“We are incredibly proud of these girls and the phenomenal performance they put together,” Weston girls coach Matt Medve said in an email. “Every single one of them stepped up and ran a great leg to secure the gold medal at adidas Nationals.”
Weston wasn’t the only Connecticut school to produce an All-American at the meet. Fitch junior Jacob Smith and the Lyman Hall girls sprint medley relay team also earned All-America honors with top-six finishes.
Smith finished fourth in the decathlon championship with 5,845 points. Smith, who won the CIAC decathlon earlier this month, finished first in the 110 hurdles (14.98) and high jump (6 feet, ¼ inch). He also was third in the 100 (11.19) and sixth in the 400 (53.42), 1,500 (5:06.44) and javelin (134-0½). Smith took eighth in the shot put (37-0¼).
The Lyman Hall girls sprint medley relay placed fifth in the championship race in 4:18.84. The quartet consisted of Diana Escurel, Sadie Tierney, Isabelle Champagne and Angelica Gournaris.
