Berlin and Kyiv agreed to exchange battlefield datasets to accelerate new weapons development. The move aims to deepen European defense cooperation.

Ukraine and Germany have concluded an agreement on exchanging digital combat data, aimed at speeding up the development of new weapons systems and strengthening the defense capabilities of both countries.

This was stated by the Federal Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, during a press conference with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in Berlin.

“Another example is the recently signed agreement by our defense ministers on exchanging digital combat data for the development of new weapons systems. The significance of this arrangement is hard to overestimate. The fact that we are now in Europe, together with Ukraine, developing such a system, raises Europe’s level of independence”

According to the leader of Germany, such an agreement underscores Europe’s aspiration to strengthen its defense autonomy.

Impact on defense cooperation and European security

The partnership in intergovernmental data exchange should become the foundation for faster deployment of innovations in weapons systems, enabling the defense capabilities of both Ukraine and Germany to be strengthened, as well as expanding cooperation in the European defense sector.

Such steps demonstrate Europe’s commitment to deepening defense autonomy and investing in research, development, and production chains, strengthening the region’s position on the world stage.

In the context of current challenges, close cooperation among allies is regarded as an important signal of increased security and stability in the region.

This direction underscores Europe’s joint efforts to bolster defense capabilities and greater autonomy in the security sphere.
