SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – A major announcement is expected Tuesday morning from BMW’s plant in Greer.
BMW executives are set to unveil the new BMW X5, marking the SUV’s world premiere. The debut comes as BMW continues investing in the Upstate and South Carolina as the company expands production and prepares for an electrified future.
In December 2022, FOX Carolina showcased BMW’s XM, the company’s first high-performance model with an electrified powertrain. That vehicle reached dealerships in 2023.
In June 2024, BMW celebrated the opening of its first press shop in North America. The facility stamps sheet metal for the BMW X3 and produces parts including the doors, fenders, lift gate and exterior body sides.
BMW has also announced a $1.7 billion investment to expand and prepare Plant Spartanburg for electrification and to build a high-voltage battery assembly facility in Woodruff. U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, attended that announcement.
BMW first arrived in the Upstate more than 30 years ago with a $620 million investment, a record at the time. State economic leaders say BMW has continued to exceed expectations.
The world premiere of the new BMW X5 is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
