Eagle-eyed Aldi shoppers have noticed a change to a popular product in the fridge section, and some are not happy about it.
One customer was stunned when they went to buy their regular $1.85 Farmdale Full Cream Milk recently, which is usually packaged in a 1L carton.
But they quickly discovered that it now came in a plastic bottle.
They called it a “huge step backward” and feared their milk would start tasting like “gross” plastic.
A YouGov survey showed that 78 per cent of Aussies are concerned about plastic use across the country, and many are being mindful of how much they’re buying.
An Aldi spokesperson confirmed to Yahoo Lifestyle that the change has been implemented only in supermarkets across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and Western Australia.

The carton version still remains in South Australia.
But the supermarket didn’t explain why the carton was changed to a recyclable twist-cap HDPE bottle.
The new version of Aldi’s Farmdale Milk 1L (Light and Full Cream) can be found in a recyclable twist-cap HDPE bottle in NSW, VIC, QLD and WA. But the carton version remains in South Australia.
The irritated Aldi shopper who posted about the change declared they would not be buying the new-look plastic containers.
“Honestly, we know it costs you less, but I’d pay another 50c PER CARTON if it meant no plastic. I honestly can’t drink milk out of plastic. I’m gutted.”
But it’s worth noting that cartons still have thin layers of plastic inside to prevent the liquid from spoiling the cardboard packaging.

Aussies replied to the upset milk shopper and said the new plastic bottle isn’t all bad news.
“Most places can’t recycle [cartons] properly because layers are made of different material that has to be processed separately. At least plastic milk bottles are just one type of plastic,” one pointed out.
“Single-material plastic bottles are much, much easier to recycle than multi-layered carton with plastic liner inside them,” another wrote.
Others wished glass bottles were used more often than plastic or cardboard ones.
“Bring back glass bottles. Even better, the milkman who drops them at your house every day,” one said.
“It would be great if we went back to reusable glass milk bottles,” wrote another.
