CoreTech System Co., Ltd. (Moldex3D) has launched DesignSim, a design for manufacturability (DFM) validation tool for product and mold designers. Built into Siemens NX, DesignSim allows users to check product manufacturability within the CAD environment without switching interfaces. Compared with conventional CAE validation workflows, DesignSim can improve validation efficiency by up to 4.75 times, supporting faster design reviews and development cycles.

DFM validation within Siemens NX

DesignSim is embedded directly within Siemens NX and does not require a separate standalone software installation. Users can run DFM analyses through a four-step workflow. Solver settings and mesh sizes are automated using validated defaults, reducing the need for manual parameter adjustments. Analysis results are presented through an interpretation layer to help users determine whether a design meets target criteria.

DFM checks for product and mold designers

DesignSim includes 17 DFM checks intended to help users identify potential issues earlier in the design phase. The tool also allows users to apply engineering judgment during the review process. Key features include:

Geometry inspection: Checks thickness distribution, cross-sections and internal structures to help identify design issues.

Manufacturability evaluation: Detects undercuts, evaluates draft angles, predicts sink-mark locations, checks flow-length-to-thickness ratio and estimates cooling time.

Filling analysis: Runs filling simulation to evaluate flow behavior, weld line locations and air trap locations.

DFM analysis: Scores molding feasibility using rule-based DFM analysis.

Solver technology and material data

DesignSim uses solver technology from Moldex3D and CoreTech System’s injection molding simulation experience. It also uses a laboratory-validated material database to support manufacturability analysis. The tool is intended to help design teams use simulation results when evaluating product manufacturability and design quality.

DesignSim supports Siemens NX versions 2312 to 2606 and is available as an annual subscription through authorized channels.
