QUINCY Fla. (WCTV) – Over a month after a mudslide damaged the Aldi shopping plaza in Quincy, the store is still closed, according to the city commission.
The mudslide, caused by heavy rainfall in May, significantly damaged the slope at the rear of the property. City of Quincy Utilities Department was forced to cut off and cap the main water line that serves Aldi.
Since then, Aldi has remained closed.

At Tuesday’s meeting, commissioners started the process to request federal funding to help fix the property.
The funding, which is in the form of a competitive matching grant, requires a letter of request. The property owner provided the city with a letter saying they would compensate the city for the required local match, according to the city commission agenda.
Commissioners approved the letter of the request to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the funding to fix the slope on the property behind Aldi.
The city says if funding is approved and the slope is fixed, the water main line can be repaired and Aldi can reopen.
