ALDI’s flagship Times Square supermarket was closed on Sunday after a sprinkler problem sent debris falling from the ceiling and forced shoppers to evacuate the underground store on Saturday evening.

The FDNY said it received a call at 6:12pm reporting a defective sprinkler at 311 W42nd Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues. One engine and one ladder company responded and “mitigated the scene,” according to the department. No injuries were reported, and the FDNY operation concluded at 7:37pm.
