Police shoot dead 21-year-old suspect Abdul Ballout after manhunt
Police have captured and shot dead the man suspected of killing a woman and injuring 29 others at a Pride event in Berlin in what authorities believe was an Islamist terror attack.
The attacker, named as Abdul Ballout, a 21-year-old German citizen with Lebanese roots, was found at an allotment site in the Spandau area of the city on Sunday evening almost 24 hours after the car and machete rampage.
Berlin police said he ran at emergency services personnel with a “stabbing weapon”, before armed officers fatally shot him.

Suspect tried to attack police with a bladed weapon, officers say
Berlin police said the suspect tried to attack them with a bladed weapon at an allotment garden complex in the suburb of Spandau before he was fatally shot.
“According to initial findings, he ran towards officers while armed with a bladed weapon; police subsequently opened fire. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts by the Berlin fire department, he died at the scene,” Berlin Police wrote in a post on X.

Berlin police confirm suspect has died
Berlin police have confirmed the suspect was shot dead in an allotment garden facility in Spandau at about 6pm.
Police said in a post on X: “According to current findings, he is said to have rushed toward our emergency forces with a stabbing weapon, after which police firearms were used by our SEK Berlin.
“Despite immediate resuscitation measures initiated by the Berlin Fire Department, he died at the scene.”

Suspect reportedly killed during a police operation
The suspect in the attack on a Pride event in Berlin yesterday has been reportedly shot and killed by police, according to German media.
21-year-old Abdul Ballout, who was named the suspect, was shot at an allotment garden complex, regional broadcaster Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) reported.

Police share thoughts with victims of the attack
Berlin police has shared its thoughts with the victims and their families following what was a “horrific act of violence” at a “peaceful” event.
“We wish the injured a swift and full recovery from the bottom of our hearts. Our sincere gratitude goes to the first responders as well as the police and emergency services personnel on duty,” police said in a post on X.
“Our forces are conducting an intensive manhunt for the suspect and are doing everything they can to quickly and thoroughly investigate this horrific act.”
