Early plans call for an Aldi store – known for discount prices and shopping convenience – to be located at East 97th Avenue and Grant Street in Thornton, as part of the discount chain’s expansion across Colorado.
Plans are also underway for an Aldi store in Denver’s Central Park neighborhood and near Denver International Airport, according to the Denver Post.
Earlier this year, the company announced plans to open more than 50 stores throughout the Denver and Colorado Springs area, the Post states. The expansion will be supported by a new distribution center in Aurora, expected to open in 2028 and create hundreds of jobs, the Post said.
Pre-application materials submitted by Michigan-based Atwell LLC on behalf of ALDI Real Estate Inc. propose a 20,436-square-foot grocery store at the East 97th Avenue and Grant Street location, the Post states.
Plans call for the store to be on a 2.85-acre site, spanning the parcel and include a parking lot next to a Bank of America.
Aldi operates thousands of stores in more than 10 countries and plans to expand to 3,200 U.S. locations by the end of 2028, according to the retailer.
Aldi stores are a popular global family of low-cost, no-frills discount supermarkets founded in Germany. They keep prices low by offering mostly private-label brands and using efficient store layouts, according to Reader’s Digest.
