The driver of a BMW suspected of driving under the influence was pursued by police for reckless driving, swerving through traffic, and driving on the wrong side of the road. Footage of the incident shows the black BMW swerving between cars, but eventually the driver’s desperation got the better of him, causing him to crash into a van.
The Glendale Police Department recently posted a video of the incident on Instagram, which took place on July 29. The post states that a Glendale Police motor officer spotted the BMW being driven at dangerous speeds, swerving in and out of traffic. In addition, the black sedan was also spotted being driven on the wrong side of the road near Cañada Boulevard and Wabasso Way.
This prompted two motor officers to pursue the BMW through Glendale. Footage shows the driver being blocked by traffic while he was trying to escape, forcing him to squeeze through gaps between cars and barely missing them by a few inches on Glendale Avenue near Monterey Road. However, the chase ended when the flow of traffic stopped at a junction. The BMW hit a van, likely a Honda Odyssey, with significant force, causing the van to be knocked out of position.

The BMW also suffered severe damage on the front right side, leaving the driver no other option but to abandon the escape attempt. Police motor officers arrived at the scene in seconds, followed by another patrol vehicle. They then immediately arrested the suspect and checked on the van’s occupants to ensure they were okay.
The Glendale Police Department confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody for felony evading and suspicion of DUI. Using the incident as an example, the police department asked motorists to avoid reckless driving and comply with the police during traffic stops. The message read:
“Driving recklessly not only puts you at risk, but also puts others—including our motor officers—at risk. If you see police with their lights and siren behind you, yield to the right side of the road.”
