Aldi is calling on shoppers to help support foodbanks during the summer holidays.
With families across Devon facing increased pressures while schools are closed, the supermarket chain is highlighting the most-needed items identified by its charity partner Neighbourly to make donating easier during the weekly shop.
The appeal comes as rising food costs and the absence of free school meals leave some households struggling to put food on the table.
Luke Emery, national sustainability director at Aldi UK, said: “The summer holidays can be a particularly difficult time for many families, with the cost of keeping children fed while they’re home from school putting extra pressure on household budgets.
“We know our customers are incredibly generous and want to support people in their local communities.
“Even adding just one extra everyday essential to your weekly shop can make a real difference.”
Among the most-requested items are tinned food, toiletries, UHT milk, tea and coffee, cereals, juices, rice, pasta, pet food, and baby products.
Donations can be dropped off at community collection points in Aldi stores, where they are distributed to foodbanks and charities.
Aldi expects to donate an estimated two million meals across the UK this summer through its partnership with Neighbourly.
