Viktor Hovland
Viktor Hovland enters the BMW Championship in compelling form. The 28-year-old has finished T-19 or better in four of his last six starts. In June, Hovland finished solo third at the RBC Canadian Open and he won the Travelers Championship by defeating Scottie Scheffler in a playoff.
Hovland heads to Bellerive Country Club this week for the BMW Championship, which is a course that sets up well for his game. Bellerive last hosted the PGA Championship in 2018 and five of the top-10 finishers that week finished the event top-10 in SG APP, including the winner in Brooks Koepka, who finished eighth in the metric. Hovland passes this test with flying colors, as he ranks third in SG APP when we compare this field’s last 24 rounds.
Bellerive also features bentgrass greens and when we analyze this field’s last 50 rounds at courses with this type of putting surface, Hovland ranks sixth in strokes gained per round. Two of his eight PGA TOUR wins have come at tracks with bentgrass greens, including his two-shot victory at the 2023 BMW Championship at Olympia Fields, which is a similar course to Bellerive.
In addition to both these tracks presenting bentgrass greens, both are long par 70s located in the Midwest – Hovland ranks sixth in this field in strokes gained per round at courses in the Midwest.
Following Hovland’s win at the BMW Championship in 2023, he went on to win the TOUR Championship at East Lake the next week. Hovland has a knack for elevating his game during the FedEx Cup Playoffs and he should contend at the BMW Championship this week.
Trailing only Scottie Scheffler and Tommy Fleetwood, Hovland ranks third in this field in strokes gained per round at FedEx Cup Playoff events. At +2700, Hovland carries the 10th-best odds to win the BMW Championship on DraftKings Sportsbook.
