Marco Sturm is going home.

And so too are J.J. Peterka and Lukas Reichel.

The Bruins will play a pair of games at SAP Garden in Munich, Germany, during the 2027-28 season as part of the 2027 NHL Global Series. It’s the first time the city has hosted a regular-season NHL game. Details dates and tickets will be announced later.

Sturm, poised to head into his second season as Bruins coach, is a native of Dingolfing, Germany, and served as head coach and general manager of the country’s national team from 2015-18. He was behind the bench when Germany earned a silver medal at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Sturm has played more NHL games (938) than any German-born player and ranks second in career goals (242) and points (487). He played for Germany at the 1998, 2002, and 2010 Olympics among his many international appearances.

“The 2027 NHL Global Series games in Germany present an incredible opportunity for the Bruins organization to build on our longstanding connection with fans around the world,” Bruins CEO Charlie Jacobs said in a release. “We look forward to representing the Bruins and the city of Boston at one of the National Hockey League’s marquee events and engaging with our passionate fanbase in Munich, across Germany and beyond.”

Peterka, the Bruins big offseason acquisition, is a Munich native. Reichel, who played in 10 games for the Bruins last season, grew up in Nurnberg, Germany. Both played for Germany at the 2026 Olympics.

This marks the Bruins’ second trip to Europe for the Global Series. The Black and Gold played a pair of games against the Coyotes in Prague, Czechia, to open the 2010-11 season.

The franchise also played two preseason games against the Flames in Shenzhen and Beijing, China in 2018. In 1959, the Bruins played a 23-game European exhibition tour with stops in England, Switzerland, France, Belgium, West Germany, and Austria.
