Authorities are investigating a wild crash in Manhattan that left at least two people hurt.
Surveillance video of the Inwood accident is jarring. A home security camera is focusing on a corner of an intersection — West 204th Street and Sherman Avenue. Suddenly, a black Mercedes-Benz comes flying backward into a block of parked cars, crashing over two of them before landing on its side on the sidewalk.
A speeding Corvette driver had hit the Benz, authorities said. While the Benz flew backward, the Corvette went careening into a 34-year-old man on the sidewalk before crashing into a building.
The 34-year-old was flung off his feet from the impact. News 4 didn’t use the part of the video showing that. Both he and the Corvette driver are expected to be OK. Cops say the Benz driver ran from the scene.
Security footage captured the collapse from every angle. Bystanders are seen pulling someone out of one of the vehicles.
Neighbors said they couldn’t believe that no one was killed, and more people weren’t hurt, given what they saw of the accident. They also say speeding cars are a constant problem in the area.
No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
