PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are investigating an attack and robbery of luxury cars at an Old City parking garage early Thursday morning.
It happened around 4:30 a.m. along Race Street, between Second and Third streets.
Investigators said two armed suspects in a dark colored Chevy approached the parking booth window, then struck it with a gun while a parking attendant was inside. They then punched and kicked in the glass.
The attendant eventually opened the door, police said, and one of the suspects pointed a gun at him. The suspects took two sets of keys and fled.
At least one other suspect was sitting in a car parked near the booth.
In all, officials said the group stole a 2021 orange or yellow Lamborghini and a 2019 dark gray Porsche.
“Two of them drove those cars, and another one drove this dark Chevy,” said Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore. “It would be a theory, but it was obvious some work was done here, and they knew what was inside. They knew the keys were available. And they knew the layout of the garage enough to know where to ask for the keys and how to get in and out
The Major Crimes Unit is handling the investigation.
The parking attendant suffered wounds from the broken glass but is otherwise physically OK.
