German energy company Uniper and Norway’s Equinor have signed a 15-year agreement to supply natural gas to Germany, the companies said Monday.
Under the deal, Equinor will deliver more than 30 terawatt-hours of natural gas annually to Uniper from 2027 through 2041, both companies said in separate statements.
Uniper said the agreement would strengthen the long-term supply of the German market, diversify its portfolio and help secure reliable gas supplies for its customers.
Commenting on the deal, Michael Lewis, CEO of Uniper, said that the companies also see potential to cooperate on lower-emission gas solutions for customers in Germany, describing Norway as a cornerstone of Europe’s energy security and Equinor as a “trusted partner.”
Equinor CEO Anders Opedal said the agreement showed continued strong demand for reliable, long-term supplies from the Norwegian continental shelf.
Equinor is one of Europe’s leading natural gas suppliers and provides a direct link between Norway’s gas resources and the European energy market.
