Ecovacs is bringing floor and window cleaning robots to ALDI for under $300 each. We’ve already got the DEEBOT NEO 4.0 under test — with surprisingly good early carpet results — while its $249 WINBOT sibling arrives just as we’ve finished testing ECOVACS’ $1,299 flagship.
Spring cleaning is about to get considerably more robotic at Aldi, with Ecovacs bringing two of its cleaning robots to the Special Buys middle aisle from 5 September.
The ECOVACS DEEBOT NEO 4.0 robot vacuum and mop will sell for A$279, while the compact WINBOT NEO MINI robotic window cleaner will be A$249.
The DEEBOT deal in particular caught our attention. ECOVACS currently lists the NEO 4.0 for $699 through its own Australian store, making ALDI’s $279 Special Buy price rather difficult to ignore.
But we’ve also got one under test at Digital Reviews Network, and the early results suggest this may be more than just an attractive price.
The $279 DEEBOT NEO 4.0 is already in the DRN Lab
Peter is currently putting the DEEBOT NEO 4.0 through our usual cleaning tests, and one thing has already stood out: **its performance on carpet**.
Our flour and shredded-paper test isn’t particularly kind to robot vacuums. The combination gives us a useful indication of how well a machine can deal with both fine material worked into carpet fibres and larger lightweight debris.
So far, the NEO 4.0 appears to be handling that challenge surprisingly well.
We’ll reserve the final judgement until Peter has completed testing, but it’s a promising start for a robot vacuum and mop that will cost just $279 at ALDI.
Underneath, there’s more technology here than you might expect at that price.
ECOVACS rates the DEEBOT NEO 4.0 at 11,000Pa suction and has equipped it with ZeroTangle 2.0, which uses a triple V-shaped brush structure designed to lift, gather and untangle hair rather than leaving it wrapped around the roller.
There’s also TrueMapping navigation with real-time distance measurement and millimetre-level obstacle detection. ECOVACS says it can map 100 square metres in eight minutes.
The NEO 4.0 can vacuum and mop, with ALDI listing a 350ml dustbin, 300ml water tank, carpet detection and up to 350 minutes estimated runtime.
This isn’t one of the increasingly elaborate flagship robots with a giant dock washing its own mops and taking care of almost everything after the clean. Instead, the proposition is considerably simpler: give people the core autonomous cleaning technology at a price that wouldn’t look out of place on a conventional vacuum cleaner.
At $279, that’s interesting.
From Suzhou to the ALDI middle aisle
The timing is also interesting after our recent visit to ECOVACS’ operations in China.

That visit provided some useful perspective on where the robot vacuum market is heading.
Flagship robots naturally get the attention. They’re where manufacturers can introduce the expensive engineering first, whether that’s better navigation, anti-tangle systems, improved obstacle detection or increasingly sophisticated cleaning systems.
But mature technology has a habit of moving down the range.
A DEEBOT offering 11,000Pa suction, ZeroTangle 2.0, laser mapping, obstacle detection and mopping for $279 is a fairly dramatic example of what that eventually looks like at the other end of the market.
The question we’re now testing is how much of the real-world cleaning performance has filtered down with it.
Peter’s carpet results suggest the answer could be quite a lot.
WINBOT NEO MINI offers a $249 entry into robotic window cleaning
The other ALDI Special Buy is particularly timely for us.

The $249 WINBOT NEO MINI coming to ALDI sits at a very different end of the market.
There’s no OMNI station and you’re obviously not getting the complete W3 experience for less than one-fifth of its price.
What you are getting is ECOVACS’ most compact robotic window cleaner.
The NEO MINI measures just 215mm across and 55mm thick, with ECOVACS saying it is 37 per cent smaller and 30 per cent thinner than its predecessor. That’s not merely about making it easier to put away in a cupboard: the smaller body is specifically designed to work on narrow windows and in spaces where larger window robots may struggle.
It uses the company’s WIN-SLAM 3.0 navigation system to detect the window’s dimensions and plan a cleaning path, while ultrasonic atomisation turns the cleaning liquid into a fine spray.
ECOVACS claims up to 99.5 per cent cleaning coverage, while ALDI lists 7,500Pa suction and six hardware-based fall-protection measures.
That smaller form factor also creates an interesting counterpoint to our W3 OMNI testing.
Our experience with the flagship showed where robotic window cleaning can make a lot of sense, particularly when you’re dealing with large expanses of glass. The NEO MINI takes almost the opposite approach, targeting smaller and narrower windows with a much smaller machine and a dramatically lower cost of entry.
At $249, it also provides a substantially cheaper way to find out whether robotic window cleaning actually makes sense in your home before contemplating one of the premium systems.
Floors and windows for $528
Buy both ALDI Special Buys and you’re looking at $528 combined.
That’s less than the $699 price ECOVACS currently lists for the DEEBOT NEO 4.0 alone, and well below the price of a single current flagship floor or window-cleaning robot.
Of course, that’s not the same thing as saying they offer the same experience.
There are inevitable compromises as you move down the range, particularly around automation and docking stations, and that’s exactly why we’re interested in testing products like the NEO 4.0 rather than simply comparing specification sheets.
The more useful question is how much of the technology that actually matters has survived the trip downmarket.
Based on Peter’s early carpet testing, the $279 NEO 4.0 is making a surprisingly good first impression.
