More than 300 shoppers lined up outside Springfield’s newest Aldi on Thursday morning — some as early as 4:15 a.m. — to celebrate the store’s grand opening on the city’s east side.
The store is located at 51 Fourth Ave., sitting on a former parking lot near the intersection of East Main Street and Fourth and Maplewood avenues. It sits directly next to the UEC Theatre and across from Dollar Tree. It is the second location in Springfield.
“We are thrilled to add a second location to the Springfield market. It’s been in the works for quite a while and you can tell from the turnout that it’s a hit and certainly popular amongst the community,” said Alex Brandt, director of store operations. “We estimated that there’s a little over 300 people that turned out this morning starting at about 4:15 a.m., and the line keeps coming. So it’s been a fantastic grand opening new store for us so far.”

A line of shoppers stretched all the way down the building, while cars overflowed the Aldi parking lot and filled at least half of the adjacent movie theater lot.
“I get off work at 6 a.m. and I drove through here at 7 a.m. and there was already 75 people in line. The line already came to the end of the building,” said Mandy Hagins.
She said she’s been praying for an Aldi to be built on this side of Springfield, where she lives.
“About nine months ago, I prayed, ‘Lord, if we had an Aldi on this side of town,’, and sure enough, they started building it,” she said. “We got here at about 7:45 a.m. because it’s an answered prayer, so I’m like, ‘let’s see what’s it all about’, so I’m excited.”
Teresa Perkins, office assistant at the Aldi warehouse, said it’s been one of the busiest openings they’ve had.

The first 200 customers got a gift bag filled with a sampling of Aldi-exclusive products and a gift card as part of the Aldi Golden Ticket giveaway program.
Hagins and her daughter were customers 131 and 132, so they both received a golden ticket gift card with $10 and $25, respectively.
The store features a curated selection focused heavily on private-label items, with nearly 90% of products exclusive to Aldi. Offerings include organic meats, fresh produce, sustainable seafood, specialty cheeses, wine and rotating weekly “Aldi Finds.”

Crews with Dalo Construction Inc. started working on the store in November 2025, a few months after Aldi Inc. bought the property from United Entertainment Corp for $975,000 in August 2025, according to the Clark County Auditor’s website.
The new store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Springfield is also home to an Aldi location at 2091 N. Bechtle Ave. and a regional distribution center at 4400 S. Charleston Pike.
