German company E.ON will cooperate with Dresden-based SolarWatt, which manufactures electricity storage systems. E.ON is thus following ČEZ, which entered Sonnenbatterie last year. The development will also be helped by the reinstatement of a subsidy scheme for German applicants seeking solar+storage systems.
E.ON today announced cooperation with Solarwatt, which manufactures electricity storage systems. The German company is thus further developing its activities in renewable energy, which E.ON is set to pursue following its split into the two companies E.ON and UNIPER.
E.ON sees great potential in household energy storage systems, citing 1.5 million rooftop solar installations in Germany alone. In cooperation with Solarwatt, it will manufacture its own energy storage system, which should be available within several months.

Support for solar + storage reinstated
At the end of last year, there was talk in Germany that support for rooftop solar panels and energy storage systems would be discontinued. The reason for ending the support was that it had already fulfilled its original purpose and sufficiently enabled the development of combined household systems.
Following criticism from industry associations, the proposal was reconsidered and support will be reopened from 1 March this year. Without support, the system remains economically unviable due to expensive batteries. Support is to be provided until 2018.
