adidas’ 3D-printed heaters are booming, and they’re even leading the game in the 3D-manufactured performance category too, with their football boot and basketball shoes. They kicked it all off by reinventing the legendary Climacool franchise last year, and now they’re upgrading that initiative with the Futurecool – limited to only 400 pairs.
Climacool first launched in the early 2000s, and was built to combat heat and humidity – basically, a sneaker franchise that made airflow its number one priority. Today, the OG Climacool models are still kicking around as retros and canvases for collaborations, but the latest versions do away with traditional construction methods. Climacool in 2026 is fully 3D-printed, boasting a one-piece lattice structure that’s lightweight and hugs your feet like no other. adidas’ Futurecool builds on the project with next-gen manufacturing practices, crafting a shoe that promises the comfort of a second skin.
‘Futurecool redefines what a sneaker can be, combining advanced printing technology and engineering with a design that looks and feels like nothing you have worn before,’ says Alexander Taylor, SV of innovation design at adidas. ‘It’s designed for those who want to embrace the future before it becomes mainstream.’
