A new discount grocery store is coming to Johnson County, less than a mile away from the area’s new Trader Joe’s.
An Aldi at 5830 Antioch Rd., is currently under construction, according to signage posted in the parking lot. It was previously an Office Max, which closed earlier this summer.

An opening date for the discount store has yet to be announced, but signage in the lot as of Sept. 4 says “coming soon.” The new Aldi will be in the Merriam Town Center / Merriam Village, which includes an Ikea, Marshall’s, Cinemark, Home Depot, Five Below and more.
This will mark the 31st Aldi location in the Kansas City area. The Albrecht family founded the discount grocery store in Germany in 1961, and it has since grown to more than 2,400 stores across the United States, according to its website.
City officials in Grain Valley recently announced the construction of an Aldi just off Interstate 70 just outside the downtown area, at 3300 S. Outer Road E. It is expected to open January 2027.
