WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — BASF in McIntosh will be laying off half of its staff after stopping multiple production lines at the site.

According to BASF officials, 100 of the 200 people who work there will be affected.
“BASF will cease operation of multiple production lines at its McIntosh, Alabama, site by the end of the first quarter 2027,” a company news release said.
“The site currently produces specialty chemicals marketed by BASF’s Performance Chemicals division, serving the plastics and automotive industries.”
The site will continue to operate, but at a “reduced footprint.”
The release said the cut is due to an “ongoing commitment to operating its core businesses in a cost-efficient manner” to stay competitive in the market.

Officials said they are working with those being laid off to provide support.
