{"id":10972,"date":"2026-05-07T14:45:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T14:45:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/10972\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T14:45:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T14:45:14","slug":"poland-says-it-could-host-us-troops-pulled-from-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/10972\/","title":{"rendered":"Poland says it could host US troops pulled from Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Poland said it is prepared to host U.S. troops withdrawn from <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/germany\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"298\">Germany<\/a>, opening the door to a possible reshuffling of U.S. forces in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/europe\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"81\">Europe<\/a> after President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"4\">Donald Trump<\/a> announced plans to pull 5,000 <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/troops\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"4537\">troops<\/a> from Germany over the next year.<\/p>\n<p>Polish President Karol Nawrocki made the offer during <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/nato\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"603\">NATO<\/a> exercises in Lithuania, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.prezydent.pl\/aktualnosci\/wizyty-zagraniczne\/litwa-cwiczeniach-brave-griffin-26ii,119852\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.prezydent.pl\/aktualnosci\/wizyty-zagraniczne\/litwa-cwiczeniach-brave-griffin-26ii,119852\">arguing Poland is ready<\/a> to host a larger American military presence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf President Donald Trump decides to reduce the American military presence in Germany, then we in Poland are ready to receive American soldiers,\u201d Nawrocki said, adding that the country has the infrastructure ready\u201d for such a move.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The proposal comes amid tensions between Trump and German Chancellor <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/friedrich-merz\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"11796\">Friedrich Merz<\/a>, following the president\u2019s announcement of a troop withdrawal after a public disagreement with the German leader last week.<\/p>\n<p>Still, Polish officials have sought to balance support for closer military ties with Washington against concerns about divisions within NATO.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Polish Prime Minister <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/notesfrompoland.com\/2026\/05\/05\/poland-wants-more-us-troops-but-not-at-germanys-expense-says-tusk\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/notesfrompoland.com\/2026\/05\/05\/poland-wants-more-us-troops-but-not-at-germanys-expense-says-tusk\/\">Donald Tusk warned<\/a> that Warsaw should not appear to benefit at Germany\u2019s expense. Tusk said Poland would welcome \u201cany opportunity\u201d to increase the U.S. presence on its territory, but would not allow the country to be used to undermine European unity.<\/p>\n<p>Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Bosacki said discussions between the United States and Poland are already underway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTalks are taking place at both the military and diplomatic levels,\u201d Bosacki told <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.polsatnews.pl\/graffiti\/2026-05-06\/nie-jestesmy-zwolennikami-tego-pomyslu-wiceszef-msz-o-decyzji-pentagonu\/\">Polsat News<\/a> on Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The dispute between Trump and Merz was sparked by comments the German chancellor made last week, criticizing <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/iran\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"100\">Iran<\/a> and failed diplomatic talks with the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Iranians are obviously very skilled at negotiating, or rather, very skillful at not negotiating, letting the Americans travel to Islamabad and then leave again without any result,\u201d he <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/4544157\/german-chancellor-us-humiliated-iran\/\">told pupils <\/a>in Marsberg, Germany. \u201cAn entire nation is being humiliated by the Iranian leadership, especially by these so-called Revolutionary Guards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump sharply rebuked the remarks, accusing Merz of being weak on Iran\u2019s nuclear ambitions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, thinks it\u2019s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon,\u201d <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116483733181582907\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116483733181582907\">Trump said in a post<\/a> on his Truth Social account. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t know what he\u2019s talking about!
