{"id":1245,"date":"2026-03-31T15:02:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T15:02:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/1245\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T15:02:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T15:02:08","slug":"germany-imports-record-level-of-lng-in-first-quarter-of-2026-amid-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/1245\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany imports record level of LNG in first quarter of 2026 amid war"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Germany imported record levels of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the first quarter of 2026 despite the war in Iran, official data showed on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Natural gas with a record energy capacity of more than 25 terawatt-hours (TWh) arrived at the three German terminals in Brunsb\u00fcttel and Wilhelmshaven, the state-owned Deutsche Energy Terminal (DET) company said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The German gov rnment accelerated the development of LNG infrastructure following the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in order to become independent of Russian gas supplies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">LNG recently accounted for around 10% of Germany\u2019s gas imports, with a far larger volume reaching the country via pipelines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">At the terminals, the LNG, delivered by tankers at -162 degrees Celsius, is converted back into gas and then pumped ashore in its gaseous state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The war in the Middle East has so far not had a major impact on LNG handling at the German terminals, with the majority of supplies coming from the United States.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The 25 TWh would be sufficient to fill around 10% of the total capacity of Germany&#8217;s natural gas storage facilities, according to DET.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In comparison, only 10 TWh was fed into the system in the first quarter of 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In addition to the three state-run terminals operated by DET in Wilhelmshaven and Brunsb\u00fcttel, there is also the R\u00fcgen LNG terminal in Mukran, operated by Deutsche Regas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The launch of a further LNG terminal operated by DET in Stade has been delayed, but the facility is scheduled to come on-stream in 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Germany imported record levels of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the first quarter of 2026 despite the war&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":1246,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[1076,1074,1077,5,1070,1073,1071,1075,1072],"class_list":{"0":"post-1245","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-germany","8":"tag-brunsbuttel","9":"tag-det","10":"tag-deutsche-energy-terminal","11":"tag-germany","12":"tag-liquefied-natural-gas","13":"tag-lng-infrastructure","14":"tag-lng-terminal","15":"tag-wilhelmshaven","16":"tag-wilhelmshaven-lng-terminal"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1245","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1245"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1245\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/1246"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1245"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1245"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1245"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
