\n\t\t\t\t\t\tA Berlin Police Department internal review found officers failed to properly handle a warning about Michael Gleason Jr. two days before police say he killed Sandra Marisol Fuentes Huaracha at a New Hampshire restaurant.The 65-page report, released Thursday, examined police calls, incident reports, body camera footage and dispatch recordings connected to Fuentes and her estranged husband, Gleason, between April 26 and July 6.The review said officers responded to each call involving Fuentes and Gleason, but it found missed opportunities in how some of those calls were handled, including possible protective-order violations and a July 4 warning about Gleason’s threats.The report says a friend told authorities on July 4 that Gleason had made suicidal and homicidal comments, including that he “should kill himself and take her out with him.” The review found police did not try to interview Gleason in person, contact Fuentes, warn her, determine Gleason’s whereabouts or conduct a welfare check.The report called the handling of that call “a glaring failure of basic police functions and basic criminal investigation.”The review also found missed follow-up opportunities involving possible protective-order violations and repeated calls from Fuentes about property, vehicles, social media and other concerns before the killing.The review recommended more domestic violence response training, trauma-informed victim response training, better documentation, supervisory review of domestic violence calls and a possible formal welfare-check policy.\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
