KANSAS CITY, Mo. \u2014 A traveling Berlin Wall exhibit will be coming to Union Station next month.<\/p>\n
Union Station officials revealed this week that the new exhibit will open to the public on Friday, May 29.<\/p>\n
See the latest headlines in Kansas City and across Kansas, Missouri <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cThe Berlin Wall: A World Divided\u201d will make its North American premiere at Union Station in Kansas City, taking the place of the immersive Titanic exhibit.<\/p>\n The exhibit is currently making its way through Europe, but it is expected to open in Kansas City just in time for the World Cup.<\/p>\n \u201cUnion Station is not only excited to bring the next chapter of world-shaping history to Kansas City, but also excited to welcome the world to be a part of this experience,\u201d Union Station President and CEO George Guastello said in a statement on Wednesday.<\/p>\n \u201cWith this exhibition, guests will step back in time to events from 1945 through the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Bringing an internationally significant exhibition requires vision, commitment and investment. As the eyes of the world turn to us during FIFA World Cup, we will be ready to welcome global audiences with powerfully important story here at Union Station.\u201d<\/p>\n The Berlin Wall is considered the greatest symbol of division in history. Erected at the height of the Cold War, it represents global conflict that brought the world to the brink of nuclear destruction.<\/p>\n Rock Island Bridge opens in Kansas City: What to know <\/a><\/p>\n The collection will include six original sections of the Berlin Wall. Each is about 12 feet tall and weighs 2.5 tons. Preserved by the Berlin Wall Foundation, the wall segments were more recently in Barcelona before being delivered to the United States.<\/p>\n The exhibit will also feature more than 300 original objects that highlight the importance of freedom, human rights and democracy.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Berlin Wall: A World Divided\u201d is from the same producers of \u201cAuschwitz: Not Long Ago.
