Germany will deploy a Patriot air defense unit to T\u00fcrkiye in the coming weeks, officials said, as part of NATO\u2019s plan to bolster security along its southeastern flank. <\/p>\n
Germany\u2019s armed forces, the Bundeswehr, will set up a Patriot \u201cAir and Missile Defense Task Force,\u201d which will work closely with the Turkish armed forces, the German Defence Ministry said in a statement on Monday, News.Az<\/a> reports, citing TRT World.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cGermany is taking on more responsibility within NATO,\u201d Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said, adding that the German Patriot<\/a> unit and around 150 soldiers will replace a US unit currently deployed in T\u00fcrkiye.<\/p>\n \u201cOur air force is doing great, internationally respected work,\u201d Pistorius said. Referring to previous deployments, he added: \u201cWith their professionalism they will make an important contribution to protecting NATO airspace.\u201d<\/p>\n The ministry said the German Patriot unit will operate under NATO\u2019s Integrated Air and Missile Defence (NATO IAMD) framework. Under current plans, the mission will run from June through September 2026.<\/p>\n
