{"id":17068,"date":"2026-05-20T18:23:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T18:23:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/17068\/"},"modified":"2026-05-20T18:23:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T18:23:08","slug":"germany-seeks-to-make-defence-procurement-agency-more-agile-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/17068\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany seeks to make defence procurement agency more agile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> Germany is reorganizing its defence procurement agency to make the system more flexible and responsive, the defence ministry said on Wednesday as it moves ahead \u200bwith the overhaul of its armed forces after decades of underinvestment. <\/p>\n<p>The \u200cplans, aimed at creating project teams working closely with research institutions, are intended to emphasize speed and flexibility, with a greater focus on innovative technologies and cooperation with European partners, the ministry \u200bsaid\u00a0,<a href=\"https:\/\/news.az\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> News.az<\/a> reports, citing<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/media-telecom\/space-analytics-firm-hawkeye-raises-416-million-us-ipo-2026-05-07\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Germany has lifted borrowing limits and set aside tens of billions of \u200beuros to rebuild its military in a rearmament push that has gained \u2060urgency as Europe&#8217;s postwar alliance with the United States has frayed under President \u200bDonald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The task now is to take the next step and put the necessary \u200bconditions in place to ensure that these substantial sums can be spent quickly and efficiently in the coming years,&#8221; Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said.<br \/>Germany&#8217;s military capabilities withered after the end of the \u200bCold War, but the scale of planned spending has led to fears of waste \u200bwithout an overhaul of procurement management systems.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine&#8217;s innovative use of drone technology has underlined the pace \u200cat \u2060which military technology is being transformed, and budget watchdogs have warned of the danger that pressure from industry could encourage misallocation of resources.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry said it would aim to make its processes more efficient, with better market monitoring, supplier management, and supply \u200bchain and price control.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200bBundeswehr Innovation Centre \u2060in Erding will be expanded, while a new innovation centre focusing on naval and marine electronics will be created in the \u200bnorthern city of Kiel.<\/p>\n<p>A space and naval industry innovation hub \u200bwill be \u2060created in Bremen, with a specialised IT hub in the eastern city of Dresden, which already has a significant tech presence.
