{"id":17601,"date":"2026-05-21T00:59:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T00:59:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/17601\/"},"modified":"2026-05-21T00:59:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T00:59:09","slug":"bayer-granted-priority-review-by-us-fda-for-secondary-stroke-prevention-with-asundexian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/17601\/","title":{"rendered":"Bayer granted priority review by US FDA for secondary stroke prevention with asundexian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#13;<br \/>\n        &#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n        &#13;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15566 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Bayer-logo-thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"214\"\/>Bayer has announced that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has accepted the company\u2019s new drug application (NDA) and granted priority review designation for its investigational oral Factor XIa (FXIa) inhibitor, asundexian, for the prevention of <a href=\"https:\/\/neuronewsinternational.com\/tag\/secondary-stroke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">secondary stroke<\/a> in patients who have had a non-cardioembolic ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA).<\/p>\n<p>The NDA is based on positive results from the global, pivotal, phase-three OCEANIC-STROKE trial\u2014which were presented at the 2026 International Stroke Conference (ISC; 4\u20136 February, New Orleans, USA) and have also been published in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/full\/10.1056\/NEJMoa2513880\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New England Journal of Medicine<\/a>. OCEANIC-STROKE met both its primary efficacy endpoint of time to first occurrence of ischaemic stroke and its primary safety endpoint of time to International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) major bleeding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecondary stroke remains a serious and persistent challenge, and the FDA\u2019s priority review designation underscores the urgency of advancing potential new approaches in secondary stroke prevention,\u201d said Yesmean Wahdan, senior vice president of US Medical Affairs at Bayer. \u201cWe are proud of this important milestone that builds on our longstanding commitment to innovation in antithrombotic therapies and look forward to collaborating with the FDA as we work to bring asundexian to patients in need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, asundexian was granted a fast-track designation by the US FDA as a potential treatment for stroke prevention in patients after a non-cardioembolic ischaemic stroke.
