The German government on Thursday strongly condemned recent
\nattacks targeting Iraq\u2019s Kurdistan Region, describing the strike on the
\nresidence of regional President Nechirvan Barzani in Duhok province as a
\n\u201cserious escalation.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a statement,the Kurdish Presidency said Barzani received a
\nphone call from German Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Geza Andreas von
\nGeyr who conveyed Berlin\u2019s rejection of the attacks on the Region, stressing
\nthat \u201cstability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region remains a priority for the
\ninternational community, particularly Germany.\u201d he also affirmed Germany\u2019s full
\nsolidarity with the regional authorities in confronting security threats.<\/p>\n
For his part, Barzani expressed appreciation for Germany\u2019s
\nsupport, reaffirming the Kurdistan Region\u2019s commitment to de-escalation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Kurdistan Region has always sought to be a source of
\nstability in the region,\u201d he stressed, adding that the Region we will continue
\nworking with partners to ensure security in Iraq and protect it from the
\nrepercussions of regional conflicts. <\/p>\n
Barzani also thanked Germany for its continued assistance to
\nIraq and the Kurdistan Region, emphasizing Erbil\u2019s desire to strengthen
\ncooperation and deepen bilateral relations across various fields.<\/p>\n
The two sides exchanged views on political developments in
\nIraq and the Kurdistan Region and discussed the latest security situation and
\nthe implications of ongoing military operations in the region, the statement noted.<\/p>\n
