{"id":18706,"date":"2026-05-21T13:27:37","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T13:27:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/18706\/"},"modified":"2026-05-21T13:27:37","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T13:27:37","slug":"enbw-takes-1-4bn-hit-after-pulling-plug-on-two-uk-offshore-wind-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/18706\/","title":{"rendered":"EnBW takes $1.4bn hit after pulling plug on two UK offshore wind projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img width=\"780\" height=\"470\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/EnBW-Baltic-780x470.jpg\" class=\"attachment-jannah-image-post size-jannah-image-post wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" data-main-img=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t EnBW<\/p>\n<p>German energy utility giant EnBW has dropped the Mona and Morgan offshore wind projects in the UK after not receiving government support through the AR7 contracts for difference round.<\/p>\n<p>The company has been developing the two projects with a potential total capacity of 3GW in the Irish Sea since 2021, together with Jera Nex BP.<\/p>\n<p>The partners had previously obtained a building permit in record time thanks to their successful project development.<\/p>\n<p>According to the company, the projects were no longer economically viable as per EnBW\u2019s criteria in a challenging investment environment.<\/p>\n<p>Other reasons include increasingly deteriorating conditions, such as significant cost increases across the supply chain, higher interest rates, and ongoing project implementation risks.<\/p>\n<p>EnBW is currently in the middle of the largest investment program in its corporate history. The company plans to invest up to \u20ac50bn ($58bn) by 2030. The company has therefore decided to withdraw from both projects due to deteriorating conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The withdrawal from the projects Mona und Morgan by EnBW results in an impairment of \u20ac1.2bn ($1.4bn) in the annual report for 2025.
