That is a critical threshold\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iea.org\/reports\/oil-market-report-april-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">flagged<\/a>\u00a0earlier by the International Energy Agency, beyond which airports may begin to face shortages.<\/p>\n<p>This would occur under the base scenario, which anticipates that the situation in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz will normalize by June.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder an adverse scenario (normalization delayed to July), stocks could be depleted entirely by year-end,\u201d the research said.<\/p>\n<p>Lufthansa reported <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.lufthansagroup.com\/en\/lufthansa-group-significantly-improves-operating-result-in-first-quarter-and-maintains-positive-full-year-outlook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">overall positive results<\/a> despite higher fuel costs, with its first quarter revenues up 8 percent to \u20ac8.7 billion compared with the same period a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>However, the group said that jet fuel prices, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.datawrapper.de\/_\/5aHO5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">have doubled<\/a> since the start of the war in the Middle East, are expected to lead to additional costs of \u20ac1.7 billion in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>In April, Lufthansa cut <a href=\"https:\/\/pro.politico.eu\/news\/217026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">20,000 flights<\/a> to eliminate routes that had become unprofitable due to higher fuel costs.
